From bh at intevation.de Tue Dec 19 18:44:50 2000 From: bh at intevation.de (Bernhard Herzog) Date: 19 Dec 2000 18:44:50 +0100 Subject: [Mapit] pastetiles script Message-ID: <6qofy82tm5.fsf@abnoba.intevation.de> Hi all, I've just checked in a script that pastes all tiles in a directory into one giant output image. The script is called pastetiles and you can find it in src/tools. It's usage message: Usage: pastetiles dir outputfile Read all image files in the directory dir and paste them into one giant image and write it as outputfile. The output file type is determined from the output filename. The names of the image files must follow the scheme used by the mapit-tiles, that is, x. where and are the indices of the tile. The indices are expected to follow the same scheme as the ones in the examples where the y index increases from bottom to top. NOTE: The result image is held completely in memory, so the script may require *huge* amounts of memory. As christmas present a version 0.8 is released. We now have the possibility to add URLs to the marker files. (So the makerdefs file format has changed slightly.) We also have new free example data, covering europe. So far only source releases exists. We will produces A Windows Installer Version when time permits us to do so (it is christmas) in the next days. I am not familiar with MapInfo and don't know about MapInfo workspaces. However, MapIt! serves only raster maps and points of interest in a very efficient way. It is not intended to make it a full-blown web mapping application. So if you are looking for a powerful vector-based web mapping application you should have a look at the Free Software product MapServer (see on freegis.org for the link). If you would like to link MapIt! to the raster map database of MapInfo: this is of course possible but needs work on the MapIt! side to access the MapInfo DB (would be an interesting project). The same is true for the points of interest. BTW, MapIt! is Free Software, so if you like to try this extension on your own we would be happy to support you. Cheers and a happy new millenium Jan -- Jan-Oliver Wagner http://intevation.de/~jan/ Intevation GmbH http://intevation.de/ FreeGIS http://freegis.org/
