However preliminary simulation results suggests that the flows originating from some STPs need to be included to get realistic river flows, especially in low flow periods. My plan is to manually add these flows and re-process the source files. My question is: Is there an easier solution? No, I am not aware of one. There are more complex one's, like the LAF concept Carsten Schulze used in the processing of the Eifel-Rur for his PHD Thesis. The concept is described in http://elib.ub.uni-osnabrueck.de/publications/diss/E-Diss124_thesis.pdf Modelling and evaluating the aquatic fate of detergents / Schulze, C. The idea behind this is that the modeled flow is teh more accurate the nearer a stretch is in relation to a gauging station (which was used to calibrate the model). Also when adding flows from the STPs manually you should take care of the flows at available gauging sites. If not too old these cover also the flows from STPs.
