Registered users can download the 250x250 km tiles compressed into ECW format without any limitations and totally free of charge. The easiest way to get the images you need is to use the overview map (http://gis.ekoi.lt/data/rs/glcf_lsm_2000_laea/glcf_lsm_2000_europe.html). The Baltic GIS Portal also offers a historical collection of ~400 original Landsat ETM/TM/MSS images covering the Baltic Sea drainage basin (including St. Peterburg and Kaliningrad regions of Russia and Byelorus) processed into ERDAS Imagine format from the original scenes published by GLCF at the FTP server of the University of Maryland (ftp://ftp.glcf.umiacs.umd.edu/glcf/Landsat/WRS2). A series of seamless GIS data coverages of Europe are currently under processing and will be uploaded at the Portal soon. Go to http://gis.ekoi.lt , register (this is only need to limit the traffic to the category of "real" users), and drag down the European GIS/Satellite data of your interest. Enjoy Free GIS! However, right now we lack hardware to set up a server with a capacity to run WMS with that amount of data. Software luckily is no longer a problem. I will use HostGIS Linux - a complete and highly efficient open source platform - for this purpose. The Baltic GIS Portal is actually running on HostGIS Linux right now. So, just a hardware issue is to be solved. In case if there are no immediate sponsors, the nearest plan to acquire the equipment would be first half of the next year. This Java Servlet acts as a protocol transducer, executing and managing message dialogues between a client and one or more Web Service(s) for long asynchronous processes. The incoming XML encoded messages are currently translated to email (SMTP), short message service (SMS), fax, phone, HTTP POST and XMPP. SingleUser and/or MutliUser can register to receive either a Notification message (a one-way message) or a Communication message (an answer to the message received is expected). If the message is too long, for example for SMS, fax and/or phone, the WNS stores the message and delivers only a short description of where to get the full message. 52?North components strive for interoperability. The 52N WNS, developed within the Sensor Web Anablement (SWE) Working Group, will be integrated into the 52?North SWE Web Services. It will be used by the 52N Sensor Planning Service (SPS) to communicate between the SPS and the sensor user and will provide the 52N Sensor Alert Service (SAS) with protocols not supported by the SAS. Message-ID: <20060519233440.GA3668@intevation.de> FreeGIS CD: Mission accomplished! "To offer and promote Free Software alternatives for proprietary Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and geographic data." that was the mission statement of the FreeGIS CD in 1999, when starting out. Between then and 2003 twelve editions of the FreeGIS CD got published, containing ready made packages for popular GNU/Linux distributions like RedHat, Debian, SuSE and Mandrake. Since around 2004 most of the Free GIS Software projects offer binary installers for various platforms right on their homepages. The distributions also have integrated some GIS packages and the Internet got faster with more people having direct access. Not to forget the increasing number of some famous GIS Live-CDs. "Now its time to officially close this sub project of FreeGIS.org. It has accomplished its goal!" says Jan-Oliver Wagner, co-founder of the FreeGIS project. A couple of thousand copies of the CDs have been distributed in the early days of Free GIS Software, the number of subsequent copies is probably even higher. The FreeGIS CD team thanks all the direct and indirect supporters. However, a version 2.0 might still happen eventually. It likely will be a Live-CD with a new mission addressing today's and tomorrow's needs for promoting Free GIS Software. "We already have some ideas and volunteering team, but there is no hurry", Jan-Oliver Wagner explains. The FreeGIS Web Portal and the FreeGIS Mailing List continue to be popular, even drawing more attention. The FreeGIS team has created a comprehensive entry point into using Free Software in processing geographic information and it is likely to stay this way. You could easily test yourself with e.g. Firefox if you stick to a Windows system. Could you also please state that this product is Free Software and which Free Software license is applied? A direct link to this information would help. If it is actually not Free Software (as defined by the Free Software Foundation, http://www.fsfeurope.org/documents/freesoftware.en.html) I ask you not to advertise it anymore on this list which is dedicated to Free GIS Software. New 1-0-alpha release now available Message-ID: <1148992606.447c3c5ed236c@webmail.gva.es> Edition, Geoprocessing and Georeferencing arrive at gvSIG. The gvSIG project publishes an "alpha" release of gvSIG 1.0. The new version of gvSIG represents a great step ahead about the new features compared to its ancestor and the current stable release: gvSIG 0.6. The most important new feature in this version is the alphanumeric and graphical CAD-like edition, one of the most demanded by the users. It also includes tools for geoprocessing, image georeferencing and a WFS (Web Feature Service) client, all the services in the OGC's Spatial Data Infrastructures are finally. We consider that gvSIG can now cover the needs of the most users of geospatial information, although we are conscious of there are a long path to walk on and many things to be improved. We are proud and impatient to announce all these new features and we have decided to publish a pre-release named gvSIG 1.0-Alpha in advance, so you can evaluate all these features on your own. It is important to emphasize that this a development version which contain bugs may be potentially important, so it is not recommended to use it for normal uses. We will continue with the usual distribution policy based in a set of unstable releases (RCs) that will culminate in the definitive one, gvSIG 1.0. gvSIG 1.0-Alpha is available from the Downloads section in the web page (http://www.gvsig.gva.es/index.php?id=descargas&L=1&L=2 ). We encourage you all to test and send us any bug or suggestions you may have to the distribution lists. New features of this version: - Edition: Many new CAD features have been added: - Edition of DGN (version 7), DWG2000, DXF and SHP files. - Vector layers can be saved in SHP, PostGIS, and DXF. - Create SHP, PostGis, and DXF layers. - Add, edit and remove points, lines and polygons. - Scale, rotante and move entities - Copy and paste entities. - Create polygons containing hole(s). - Split a graphical entity. - Visualize grids during the edition. - Simple selection. - Complex selection, allowing to select elements inside, outside, or intersecting a polygon or circumference. - Snapping. - Console for input commands during the edition. - Create an annotations layer from a vector layer. - Do and undo the operations done in edition time. In addition, there is a command stack containing the operations done done during the edition. - Locator: - Now supports zooming and panning. - It allows adding the same layers than the view. - Geoprocessing: The following operations about geoprocessing are now supported: - Area of influence. - Dissolve - Clip - Intersection - Join - Union - Difference - Spatial link - Convex hull (in a point layer, is the line that envolves all the points) - Raster: - Images can now be georeferenced. - Modifiable brightness and contrast of a image. - New user interfaces for the tools: - Save to raster - Transparency by range of colour (by pixel). - Tables: - Table edition: add columns, add registers... - Tables can now be printed. - Writting DBF files and Postgres. - Layout: - Now supports simple tables. - Now supports lines, polylines, and polygons. - Keyboard arrows move selected elements. - Do and undo support added. - Copy, cut, and paste from one layout to other support added. - WMS Service: - Added support Web Map Context (WMC) files. It is possible to export and import views to and from Web Map Context (.cml) files. - WFS Services: - A brand new WFS client has been added. It is possible to connect to servers following the OGC's WFS protocol (a new tab in the “Add layer” dialog). - Layer grouping: - It is possible to change the visualization order of the grouped layer. - Allows accessing to the table of attributes of the grouped layers Mario Carrera Rodríguez Grupo SIG-CAD / gvSIG Servicio de Organización e Informática Conselleria d'Infraestructures i Transport Generalitat Valenciana Valencia (España)
